SUMMARY:Best Practices for Disability Inclusion in Recreation
DESCRIPTION:People living with disabilities are less likely to meet physical activity guidelines than people without disabilities. Yet even low levels of physical activity have significant positive health effects. \nMoreover\, best practices are not readily available for municipalities across Canada to refer to when developing non-structured and structured physical activity and recreation opportunities for persons with disabilities and their caregivers. \nTherefore\, the Active Living Alliance for Canadians with Disability and the Canadian Disability Participation Project 2.0 consulted with municipal leaders\, persons with disabilities\, caregivers\, researchers\, and reviewed academic and grey literature to identify and develop eight best practice areas. \nThis webinar will provide an overview of the best practices and ‘how-to’ strategies. Linkages to the Municipal Guide to Promising and Best Practices for Disability Inclusion in Recreation and Physical Activity will be provided. \nFacilitated by Taryn Barry\, PH.D.\, Project Manager for the Active Living Alliance for Canadian with Disability. Taryn has worked for different sport organizations in Canada and internationally\, including Hockey Canada and the International University Sports Federation. \nIn partnership with South East Sport\, Culture and Recreation District\, Best Practices for Disability Inclusion in Recreation takes place January 14 from 12:00pm – 1:00pm over Zoom. Please pre-register for this free learning opportunity here.  \nQuestions can be directed to Community Consultant Wendy McLeod.

SUMMARY:Language and Approach: Respectable Approaches to Including People with Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:Including people of all backgrounds and abilities is important for creating inclusive and caring communities. \nCanadians with disabilities often face barriers to inclusion within society\, including employment\, financial security and social inclusion. Discrimination isn’t always intended\, but it can come from a place of not knowing how to reach out to people experiencing disability or come from a place of anxiety about saying or doing something that will be offensive. \nThis webinar is about working towards making our communities inclusive and accessible\, starting with the language around disability and then the next steps\, creating the ask. Some of your greatest resources in your community may remain untapped because they weren’t asked. \nFacilitated by Jenelle Fortier\, Employment & Transitions facilitator for Inclusion Saskatchewan in Regina and Area\, where in her role\, she is committed to ensuring people with disabilities have the necessary resources and supports to achieve their goals and lead fulfilling lives. \nAlso facilitated by Shandrea Verboom-Brodner\, Director of Supports with Inclusion Saskatchewan. Shandrea is passionate about upholding the rights of people with disabilities and advocating for a more inclusive Saskatchewan for all. \nGuest Speaker Leanne Madsen will also be in attendance who has contributed her time and energy to co-create various resources alongside Inclusion Saskatchewan such as Support Decision Making Workbook and My Health Wishes. \nIn partnership with South East Sport\, Culture and Recreation District\, Language and Approach: Respectable Approaches to Including People with Disabilities takes place December 10\, 2025 from 12:00pm – 1:00pm. \nPlease pre-register for this free online learning opportunity here. SUMMARY:Grant Writing 101 - Writing Persuasive Proposals
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this workshop on persuasive proposal writing and learn how to take your proposal from paper to approval! \nProposal writing is one of the most challenging but also rewarding parts of working in the non-profit world. Monica brings over 15 years of experience working in community development\, with a focus on social enterprise and food access programming. Monica draws on a variety of grassroots programming experiences and is skilled in grant and report-writing\, workforce training and marketing for non-profits.  \nGrant Writing 101 – Writing Persuasive Proposals takes place September 25 from 12:00pm – 1:30pm over Zoom. Registration is required for this free webinar. Questions can be directed to Community Consultant Wendy McLeod.
